"It was one of those moments where your whole world narrows and all you can do is focus on the health of your child."
Beau's Story
In February 2024, Kate and Matthew’s world turned upside down. Their 5-year-old son, Beau, had his tonsils and adenoids removed in what was meant to be a routine operation. But just six days later, Beau suffered a severe post-surgery bleed and was rushed to hospital by ambulance. Emergency surgery was the only way to stop the bleeding in his throat.
By the next morning, Kate and Matthew were physically and emotionally drained. That’s when hospital staff told them about the Ronald McDonald Family Room inside the hospital.
The moment Beau walked in, his face lit up. There were toys, a TV, comfy lounges — a space that felt nothing like a hospital room. For Kate and Matthew, it was a calm in the storm: a place to make a cup of tea, toast a sandwich, charge their phones, play games, and simply breathe.
Beau’s courage through a frightening and uncertain time makes him one of our Little Heroes — and your support can help more children like him. Start fundraising today and be the hero a family needs when life takes an unexpected turn.
